students in library

On December 14, 2022 Juarez-Lincoln’s Emergent Bilingual Academy composed of Recent Immigrant students participated in a language camp at the school library where they were introduced to the TELPAS Assessment. Leading the camp was Ms. Elsa Cantu and Ms. Lorry De La Garza, who are Title III Teacher Facilitators from the Bilingual Program, and  ESOL teacher Edgar Sifuentes.  Students practiced their language skills in listening, speaking, reading and writing in a fun way by creating and decorating Christmas cards for their favorite teacher.   Students also  implemented their technology skills by producing a short video using Flipgrid where they narrated their Christmas well wishes. Teachers  were pleasantly surprised to receive and view their videos with a QR code that was in the inside of their personally decorated car.

In addition to practicing their language skills, students set goals for the upcoming TELPAS Assessment.

As part of the camp, our Social Worker Xochitl Garcia and our Graduation Specialist, Erika Salinas shared information about community services, services within the school,  and graduation overview requirements.

A special thanks to Mrs. Brandi Gandaria for the Flipgrid Backgrounds and for creating such an inviting environment at the Juarez Lincoln Library.
