Culinary Arts students at Juarez-Lincoln High School celebrated Read Across America Week in a unique way this year. In partnership with the library, both Chef Mendoza’s and Mrs. Banda’s classes competed in the First Annual Sweets & Stories Cupcake Competition in which students were tasked with creating a cupcake design inspired by a book they read.
The competition gave students the chance to showcase their culinary skills as they whipped up a batch of cupcakes and expertly decorated them to bring their literary creations to life. From piping intricate designs with frosting to sculpting scratch-made fondant decorations, the students gained valuable hands-on experience in a fun and engaging way.
The highlight of the event was a special showcase and voting held in the school cafeteria, where students proudly displayed their creative cupcake designs. Fellow students, teachers, and staff were in attendance and were impressed by the students' creativity.
As Read Across America Week came to a close, the culinary students were left with a newfound appreciation for the power of storytelling and the joy of baking. This unique celebration was a hit with all who participated and is sure to become a tradition for years to come.
