HUSKY SWIMMING is back! And the RIO GRANDE VALLEY took notice last night as they competed in the 5-A District Championships.

The boys, led by three freshmen:
● Emerson Avila
● Alexis Velez
● Israel Aviles
And one senior
● Leonardo Garcia
Set a new standard in Husky swimming as a team by qualifying in the
● 200 Medley Relay
● And the 200 Sprint Relay

Individually, Leonardo Gracia qualified for Regionals in the 500 freestyle, Alexis Velez qualified for Regionals in the 100 Butterfly, and Emerson Avila broke the 2020 school record in the 100 Breaststroke.

In heat results:
● Israel Aviles placed 1st in the 50 freestyle
● Derek Zapotecas placed 2nd in the JV 50 freestyle
● Alexis Velez placed 1st in the 100 butterfly
● Derek Zapotecas placed 2nd in the JV 100 freestyle
● And Emerson Avila placed 1st in the 100 breaststroke

This is an even greater accomplishment because the team is made up of freshmen that began their swimming journey last summer.

The Girls team, led by Samantha Tello and Aylin Ramos Banda, resurrected our mighty Husky fighting spirit by qualifying for Regionals in the 200 Medley Relay. Our freshmen, Geraldine Rasgado began the race swimming the backstroke, and Ana Izzaguirre anchored the relay swimming the 50 freestyle.

In heat results:
● Ana Izaguirre placed 1st in the 50 freestyle
● Geraldine Rasgado placed 2nd in the 50 freestyle
● Aylin Ramos placed 1st in the 100 freestyle
● And Samantha Tello placed 3rd in the 100 backstroke

As the team prepares for the Regional Championships on February 9th, we want to thank our principal Jose Pena, Athletic Coordinator Coach Mark Gonzalez , and all the teachers for working with our athletes and providing us with everything we needed this season to make all this happen! God Bless and GOOOOO HUSKIES!!!!!
