On Monday, April 17th four students from Juarez-Lincoln High School competed at the La Joya ISD high school Battle of the Books. They competed against students from La Joya ECHS, Palmview HS, Jimmy Carter ECHS, Thelma Salinas STEM ECHS, and Academy of Health Science Professions & STEM HS.  The JLHS Book Club read The Cousins by Karen MacManus, Indivisible by Daniel Aleman, Dragon Hoops by Gene Luen Yang, and The Inheritance Games by Jennifer Lynn Barnes during the 2022-2023 school year in order to prepare for the Battle. Students were asked detailed questions about all the titles in a series of rounds. Round one consisted of 50 questions, and all of our students made it to the next round. Round two was 30 questions, and at the end we still had three contestants in the running from JLHS. In the final round, our students were able to come in on top. Sophomore, Blanca R. won first place, while Senior Dafne G. came in second, bringing home the Grand Champion trophy to Juarez-Lincoln High School! Congratulations to all JLHS Book Club members for putting in the hard work!
