Juarez-Lincoln High School offered a training for students to provide Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) services to the community.

What is VITA?

The VITA program offers free tax help to people who generally make $54,000 or less, persons with disabilities, and limited English speaking taxpayers who need assistance in preparing their own tax returns. The training was conducted by business teachers Mrs. Daisy Yudith Cantu, Ms. Nubia Lizette Acosta and Mr. Ricardo Garza, who prepared and successfully certified 86 students.

The IRS-certified volunteers can now provide free basic income tax preparation with electronic filing to qualified individuals. These certified students can receive community service hours by volunteering at the local income tax center that La Joya ISD will provide for the public:

  • Tuesdays and Thursdays
  • Starting on January 26, 2017, through April 6, 2017
    • With the exception of Spring break.
  • From 5:00pm to 7:30pm
  • At Juarez-Lincoln High School – Library
